Emotional Changes in Girls
When going through puberty, girls will experience as many emotional changes as physical changes. Girls will spend increasingly more time, fussing about their appearance and about what others think about them. This can lead to being depressed, sad or to losing your temper easily. A girl might also want to start exploring what makes them unique, what makes them special. As girls grow older, they may start to have conflicting emotions. This is where they are stuck between taking more responsibility and still want someone to guide them through life. This indecision will often leave a girl confused or even upset. To add to this, they will often get mood swings. They can swing between happiness, sadness, excitement, joy, depression and other emotions really fast. This leaves them even more confused.
Another part of puberty is having sexual thoughts. Girls will start spending a lot of time talking to other girls about who they think looks hot, even if the person they are talking about is 10 years older. Compared with boys, girls don’t spend much time thinking about other boys that they could actually get together with. All of these emotions will be experienced whilst going through puberty by everyone and are normal so do not worry or feel guilty. Most of these emotions will start around the time puberty starts so their starting time will vary for everyone but they are signs that you are maturing into young women.
